Lil Step

Hailing from Western Massachusetts, versatile artist Lil Step returns to the scene in a poignant fashion with Breakthrough, with the album representing the aftermath to what has happened since his first album, Relativity, back in early 2021. After a near-fatal car accident in 2022 that left him with debilitating injuries, Lil Step documents his recovery through this 11 track album. Executively produced/engineered by fellow WMass producer and artist DK, Lil Step blends the elements of trap, alternative R&B, and new wave sounds to paint a picture and showcase Step’s new lease on life; his breakthrough.

Breakthrough is an emotive, personal record that inspires listeners with its vivid relatability. Across a series of heartfelt, memorable records, Lil Step details his recovery and return, and does so in a focused, engaging fashion. It’s difficult to ignore Step’s sincerity with energizing, urgent songs like “A Step Forward”, with its bouncy, diverse production paired with intense vocals. “Wins Over Losses” portrays an intimate look at Lil Step’s life and times atop atmospheric, raw instrumentation. Closer “Toxicity”, brings in a rock-influenced element that demonstrates Step’s versatility, finishing the record on a high note.
