Emerging as an Asian Canadian visionary powerhouse, Lil Waterboi sets the tone for Asian artists in his hometown of Montreal, Canada. A product of hard working immigrant parents, the grind never stops for Lil Waterboi: within only a couple of years, he has established himself as a well respected graphic designer (so far, he’s made all of his own cover arts), artist, producer and entrepreneur as the leader and Co-Founder of Bahay Collective.
As an artist, Lil Waterboi takes pride in his versatility: some songs feature an unfiltered retelling of his life story while others pour out built up tension through rage, sadness or humor.
Lil Waterboi’s first single “Du Ma May,” explores themes of Vietnamese identity in a light-hearted and humorous way, gaining attention on YouTube, and more notably in the Vietnamese disaporic community. The song recently received the remix treatment featuring San Jose trailblazer Chow Mane, Hai Phong newcomer JONAIR and Bahay Collective’s newest prodigee, Mando.
“Crazy Rich” builds on the success of “Du Ma May”. Co-produced by Bahay Collective’s very own Jtondabeat and featuring Toronto rising star, Ching, “Crazy Rich” is a spiritual successor to his first hit. In the song, he challenges the narrative that Asians are reserved and risk averse, introducing a party hard brand of Asians that is becoming more well known thanks to films like “Crazy Rich Asians” from which the song draws its inspiration.
