"Lingby released their new album Bright Black, and it blew me away. I love the band, which makes me a little subjective. But if you have an objective taste in music, our worlds don't meet anyway. Bright Black is a big hit - and what a big hit it is. Lingby basically bring two great things to the table: great vocals and the use of entire stores of music instruments. But there's also some insane songwriting. Oh yes, I already have one of my records of the year! Listen and love, please!" (Christoph Menningen, Konzerttagebuch)
LINGBY has been around since 2005. Judith, Carmen and Martin develop their musical language as a trio, producing in their home studio in Cologne. Equipped with a variety of listening experiences and influences, they bring together elements that influence and move them: from trip hop and shoegaze to electronic / experimental music, spoken words and orchestral music, they draw inspiration from many genres and times.
Based on Judith's lyrics and ideas, the trio combines their sometimes clashing perspectives. Familiar elements like the use of brass instruments, guitar and bass meet lead vocals that are sometimes spoken or whispered, sometimes distorted, sometimes harmonized. The analog drum set is combined with beats. Bass and synthesizers play mantra-like lines, here analog, there effect-soaked. Lingby don't shied away from orchestral pathos if the song calls for it. In their world, abyss and beauty are interwoven.
