Lipgloss is an East Jakarta-based art rock band with an indie spirit and Britpop soul. Formed in 1998, Lipgloss carved out a name for themselves in Jakarta’s indie scene by nailing live covers of Britpop icons like Suede, Pulp, Radiohead, Morrissey, The Cure and Blur. Their standout stage presence quickly made them a favorite at school and campus festivals from 1998 to 2006.
Defined by their love for raw, honest rock music and a do-it-yourself ethic, Lipgloss stayed true to their indie roots. In 2006, they began recording their debut album independently. Under Fiasco Records, "Asa"—a collection of 11 introspective and sonically rich tracks—was officially released on January 21, 2007. The album reflected years of growth, struggles and creative exploration.
Lipgloss isn't your typical indie pop band. They bring something deeper, more atmospheric, and emotionally resonant. Despite multiple lineup changes over the years, their commitment to authentic music-making only grew stronger. That drive earned them national acclaim when they became one of the winners of the L.A. Lights Indiefest 2007, thanks to their breakout song “Mereka Sebut Timur.”
Now, Lipgloss is back in the studio, actively working on new material. A fresh single is set to drop in mid-2025, followed by a highly anticipated new album—marking a powerful return for one of Jakarta’s most enduring indie acts.
