-It’s church homecoming and the choir has prepared a special for “Big Church.” 3 ladies from the choir perform a song in 3 part harmony and I hum quietly to find the fourth part. After we get home mom sits at the piano and helps me find it.
-Baseball season is over and I hop in dad’s truck to go home. Dad turns up the radio just as the commercial ends. My favorite Alan Jackson song comes on as I roll down the window and watch the lightning bugs fly by.
-It’s another brutally hot summer and I’m cutting grass as usual. It’s a decent income but hard work. As I’m mowing a customers back yard I pick up on the key that the mowers engine is making. At full throttle, the engine runs in the key of “C”. So to help pass the time I hum new melodies in that key which would aid in writing songs.
My fondest memories are surrounded by music in some way. From growing up in a small NC town to traveling up and down the West Coast, I do my best to surround myself with music. It attaches a tune to an experience and helps that memory to never fade. As I continue to write new music, I tip my hat to all the good, bad and in-between experiences to come for thats what keeps me writing in the first place.
