The North-Central Massachusetts group, Loom River, weaves together long-time friends, two teachers, and former local post rock projects “From Sky to Sea” and “HARE”.
Loom River flows zig zag; unpredictable changes in meter and pressure keeps listeners engaged and surprised, but still floating safely in pop sentimentality.
Often categorized as post rock, or math rock, their melodic songs feature dynamic guitar interplay alongside playfully calculated drumming. Despite the influence of jazz, there is little room for improvisation in their carefully crafted compositions. The quintet also exhibits a background in early-emo and classic rock, making for a harmonious, emotive expression that feels altogether inventive, romantic, industrial, nostalgic, and familiar.
