Prior to the formation of the group, Ferro had a long history as a singer and songwriter. In addition to work for commercials, she sang background vocals for Dar Williams, among other artists, and produced G-Spot's 2004 album Come Here, Go Away. As a songwriter, she co-wrote the contemporary Christian hits "Stand" and "Adonai," winning the 1999 Dove Award for Inspirational Recorded Song of the Year for the latter. She launched her solo recording career with the album Languishing in Turbulence in 2001. Sobel is a New York-based session musician.
