Lounge Dogs formed in Christchurch, NZ early in 2023. Frontman Hamish Hooke and drummer Chris Self were introduced by mutual friends and after several jams began writing songs together. On the cusp of wondering whether the band thing would come to fruition they recorded and released a garage track called 'Someday'.
Keyboardist Pete 'the Snaz' (previously in Green Like Go) came onboard 6 months later, and then Sam Hood, a long-time friend and multi-talented musician was invited in to help write parts for the songs that were coming together.
Chris Self and Sam Hood played together in Christchurch rock band No Broadcast with a heavy influence and worked together to fit with Hamish Hooke's more pop-influenced song writing. Hamish most recently released an EP under 'Tommo & Hooke', a duo of alternative pop-rock with his brother, musician and producer Tom Mepham.
As a four-piece Lounge Dogs released a home demo "Pray For Me" and felt that they hit a good note, both in the style and the feel they produced. Encouraged they set out to write a further four songs.
Pete 'the Snaz' has had a large influence on the new music that the band are currently writing, bringing keys to the forefront of the songs and although Lounge Dogs are still in their formative stages, their EP 'EP' coming in Feb 2024, they all agree that they've found something musically in common, and have many songs in the bank for further writing after the release of their new EP.
