Matheus Lodewijk, known as LudoWic, is a musician, composer and producer based in the Netherlands. As an artist of electronic and neoclassical music, he merges nostalgic and futuristic sounds. He has released several albums, mainly using old analogue equipment and synthesizers. In 2025, LudoWic performed at renowned festivals and venues such as ADE, Funkhaus, Berlin and Het Concertgebouw, Amsterdam.
The latest album, titled HORIZONTAL FALL, is the follow-up to SUPER8 MEMORY. That album focused on Trautonium. Horizontal Fall involves a more layered sound and the music has a cinematic character. The world around ‘forgotten’ synthesisers is further expanded to include organ and the ondes-Martenot. Nostalgia and innovation go hand in hand and the sounds of the past and the future form a new whole.
Thematically, the album explores the feeling of falling without reaching the ground. As if you enter a vacuum space in which you can fall endlessly. The feeling of falling represents surrender.
The Trautonium, invented around 1929, is one of the first synthesizers and is played by means of a string. This gives the musician physical contact with the sound, which results in an expressive way of playing. LudoWic is one of the two active players in the world who owns and masters this instrument.
