Los Angeles quartet Lunch Lady blend the sonics of their vibrant influences into a unique strain of dusty, ephemeral indie rock. After finding their footing on the live circuit, the group made their defining aural statement on their debut album, Angel.
Emerging from Los Angeles' burbling D.I.Y. scene, Lunch Lady was formed by Juan Velasquez (lead guitar) and Rachel Birke (vocals) in 2017. Adding bassist Victor Herrera and drummer Robert Wolfe to the roster, the band quickly recorded their first demo and entered the live music scene, playing headline shows and supporting artists from Surf Curse to Orville Peck. Stripping down their post-punk and indie rock influences, Lunch Lady placed Birke's subdued vocals over a series of sticky basslines and jumpy guitar melodies, creating a distinct, desert-tinged soundscape. The group announced their debut LP, Angel, in early 2019, releasing the single "Window" with an eccentric, narrative-driven music video following a time traveler's attempts to return home. The album, produced by Pascal Stevenson, was released in August of the same year. ~ David Crone, Rovi
