Luxury formed in the mid 1990s, its members meeting at a small liberal arts college in rural northeast Georgia. With limited opportunities for music-making, and yet compelled to do so, they sought each other out despite their disparate musical influences (ranging from The Smiths to KISS). Following the release of their 1995 debut album, tragedy struck in the form of a touring wreck which resulted in three broken necks and other life-threatening internal injuries, suffered especially by singer Lee Bozeman, who was thrown halfway out of the toppling van as it came to rest on his midsection. While, the wreck slowed the pace of Luxury’s releases, it did nothing to prevent their growth as a band, as they progressed from a punky and brash live band (described as “Fugazi meets The Smiths” by more than one music writer), to a band that is more confident and expansive in its musical output, creating often lush productions that weave from restrained to unbridled. Whether this growth is related to the fact that three members of the band have unaccountably become Eastern Orthodox priests is difficult to say.
