Peruvian artist M. Caye Castagnetto bends murky samples around elastic rhythms, landing on a sound that's distant and strange, but still generates a surreal warmth. Castagnetto worked for over five years on the material that became their 2021 debut, Leap Second.
Castagnetto was born in Peru, but split time in their adult life between residences in California, London, and Lima. Working with a host of musicians and artists, Castagnetto developed a collage-like approach to their compositions, sampling and manipulating recordings of organically played sounds into more alien textures. Their debut album, Leap Second, was a long-labored assemblage of samples and song ideas, and was released on <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Castle+Face+Records%22">Castle Face Records</a> in January 2021. ~ Fred Thomas, Rovi
