Macbeth the Great

Artist

Macbeth the Great

Last updated: 4 hours ago

Macbeth the Great was one of the earlier calypso performers, and among the first to find an audience in the United States. Based in Harlem and leading a 12-piece band called the Creole Rhythm Boys, he became extremely popular in New York City and recorded for the Monogram label during the 1950s. His music, which was hailed for its authenticity even in the face of the commercial calypso boom of the late '50s, also appeared on the Time label. His son is renowned percussionist Ralph MacDonald. ~ Bruce Eder, Rovi
