Hailing from Winston Salem, Mace Floyd got his true start in music in the same space that most other musicians did, the school band room. The experience on trombone, in conjunction with experimenting with beat-making, and songwriting molded the young musician’s mind on what he wanted to become. Mace’s first production credits date back to his freshman year in high school, he consistently worked with local artists, and even developed his production skills in the classroom at times.
In 2022, Mace Floyd decided to take matters into his own hands, and laid down lyrics regarding his everyday life, schooling, and family on his latest project <a href="spotify:album:4wHllxMx1ldqpCflCfkaRd" data-name="I WIsh My Brother Harold Was Here">I WIsh My Brother Harold Was Here</a>, which is about his longtime friend, John Turner, who is also featured along with King Kai on the third track <a href="spotify:track:5NCGPbDaD90poWBMBbCFkN" data-name="Dab Pen">Dab Pen</a>, and produced the fifth track <a href="spotify:track:4Amfoim1HX8sbAjFtDE5Ui" data-name="Summer">Summer</a>. The duo of Mace Floyd and John Turner go by The Haterz, and plan to release this year. Mace describes the project as “a reflection of my freshman year of college at UNC Pembroke, a 9-track combination of jazzy loops, hard hitting breaks and smooth, reality rap brings a refreshing air into the lungs of Hip Hop.” (Floyd, 2023) Released on Valentine’s Day ‘23, this project (mixed by <a href="spotify:artist:5w67j9rnAGLQ0meM5vkWoi" data-name="Volz">Volz</a>) is only the beginning of Mace’s career, and you can expect more quality cuts from the young producer/rapper in the near future.
