You’ve never heard of MAD, and for good reason. All of the band members cut their teeth in bands you’ve never heard of and played shows that have long since been forgotten. In other words, the relative obscurity they’ve enjoyed, except for a few small parts of Delaware and the Eastern Shore of Maryland in the early 2000’s, is something you the reader are quite accustomed to.
Be that as it may, you’re reading this because they put out new music. After a 15-year hiatus and separate lives lived in different states, they made the insane decision to reunite in 2024. This consisted of writing new songs, recording a new album, and playing one heck of a reunion show.
MAD (Mother Against Daughter) is, at bottom, a punk band infused with tinges of old fashioned rock and roll, garage rock, alternative, and a few dashes of pop-punk and hardcore. Having been extruded through the trials of loss, death, divorce and depression, and resurfaced through redemption, their album “Crush” is the sound of a band in the often painful throes of middle age. It’s something not less than, but certainly not more than a crisis.
More than anything else, it’s the sound of four friends who may not have it all figured out but still know how to write a few decent songs all these years later.
