Australian band Magneto formed in 2004 in Melbourne by John Baxter and Paul Inglis formerly of Prettymess. Initially intended as a “recording project” it evolved into a live band after two songs appeared on Popboomerang Records compilations.
With British born guitarist Michael Snowball (Groundswell) and powerhouse drummer Geoff Barnes (P76), Magneto quickly came to life and an album worth of songs were recorded and mixed by Shane O’Mara and Craig Lewis for the bands debut album. “After Living on The Moon and Everything Has Gone landed on those compilations, we thought it best to start gigging and produce an album” says vocalist John Baxter.
Motivated by the love of no fuss power pop, the band began rehearsals in Richmond in late 2005 and began appearing in live shows around inner Melbourne suburbs. Not afraid of wearing their influences on their sleeves, acts such as The Stems, Cheap Trick and Teenage Fanclub has been integral to Magneto's warm fuzzy blend of shimmering guitar driven pop.
“We keep most of our songs under 2 minutes, 37 seconds and adhere to a philosophy of, if it takes longer 20 minutes to write ... it's not right", says Paul. Their debut single, ''Let it Go'', a tune about losing the delusion, was selected by Disney Pictures as the feature track on the US teen flick Sky Runners and hit the airwaves in early 2006 followed by a Victorian tour.
The debut album 'Resistance Is Futile' was released on Popboomerang Records February 2006.
