Magnolia Chop is a New Orleans born singer, song-writer and rapper. His 2004 debut album “Ghetto R&B” gave birth a new sound in hip-hop. His seductive melodies combined with gangster lyrics bridged the gap between rap and r&b and granted him popularity amongst both male and female fans.
Magnolia Chop was raised in the Magnolia Housing Projects in Uptown New Orleans. He endured many hardships in his upbringing including the loss of his father at a young age, and incarceration. Despite the turmoil, Chop was able to find an outlet in music. During his incarceration, he would create songs for his cellmates by singing over beats made with the pots and pans from the kitchen. His voice became the sound of hope in that prison. After serving his time, Chop promised himself that he would turn his life around and pursue a career in music.
Chop kept that promise, and has since been featured along side Birdman, Lil Wayne, Dj Khalid, Master P, and others. His impressive skills in the studio earned him the nick-names “Da Hookman” and “Automatic” among his musical peers.
Today, Chop continues to create music and uplift his community. He never forgets his roots, using his gift to mentor and inspire the new generation of music from New Orleans. His most recent release “Oh Well”, is an ode to his consistency and longevity in hip-hop. He remains one of the most distinct voices of our lifetime.
