Hailing from Melbourne’s north comes MAGOO, an emerging Hip-Hop/Lo-Fi producer who looks to make a grand entrance with the release of his debut EP ‘LOCKDOWN SESSIONS’.
After spending months inside due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, MAGOO rediscovered his passion for creating music and chopping samples to produce beats. What started as leisurely play, quickly turned into a conceptual project that seeks to introduce the world to his unique sound. Drawing influence from MF DOOM, Cookin Soul and The Alchemist, MAGOO’s style projects hard-hitting Boom Bap drums alongside a rich mix of Jazz/Soul from the early 60s 70s and 90s. As a means of introducing a character to accompany his music MAGOO incorporates sound bites from the classic 1960s cartoon Mr. Magoo.
“Melbourne’s lockdown was a lot of things. It was a hard time. But, I saw it as an opportunity to focus on a passion I hadn’t previously had a lot of time for. I’m grateful that I was able to use this time to create this EP, but definitely not going to miss being locked down.”
Looking forward MAGOO looks to continue experimenting with various samples and further establish himself within the local scene.
