Magpie Jay started its journey with their first album Monte Claro, which pays tribute to one of the band’s favorite places for making music: inside an old royal farmhouse located in the province of Guanacaste, Costa Rica.

Influenced by early 90’s rock albums and artists such as Red Hot Chili Peppers, Radiohead, Foals, and Tame Impala, the band recorded a 17-track-album, Islita, once again honoring Guanacaste’s beautiful landscapes.

Between the creation of these two records, the band positioned itself in the country’s most popular festivals, sharing lineups with international artists like Incubus, SOJA, Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, Cultura Profética, Café Tacvba, Julieta Venegas and Zoé.

They played in historical places, including the two biggest National Theaters in San José, which Costa Rican ex-president Carlos Alvarado Quesada declared one of the country’s cultural interest events. Additionally, Magpie Jay recorded a live session at the prestigious Salón Dorado in the Museo del Arte Costarricense.

As part of their latest album’s tour and third-ever record, Tragaluz, the band has been visiting México and Guatemala. They achieved their first sold-out concert in Mexico City at the Foro Indie Rocks in 2022. That same year, the band became one of the faces of the Californian shoe brand, Vans, in Central America.

A new era begins for Magpie with the release of their singles, “Closer to Me” and “The Crown.” The fourth album will be finished by mid 2024.
