Majestic Phoenix is more than a music group—it’s a story of friendship, fate, and creative rebirth. Aaron McLean and Kent "Von" Hertzog met on October 4, 1999, at the Art Institute of Philadelphia, bonding over a Beastie Boys shirt Aaron had designed and a shared love of music.
Aaron’s musical roots began at his mother’s piano, later mastering guitar and composing for church. Von built his career as DJ Luciano, producing hip-hop in NYC and collaborating with artists like Ghostface Killah. After losing his father, Von poured his grief into his debut album Dearly Departed, adopting the name Von Hertzog to honor him.
After graduation, they went separate ways—Aaron diving into tech entrepreneurship and Von co-founding the agency INCLINED, which refocused on audio production in 2020. Von also collaborated with Rob Rowe of Cause & Effect on cosmic-themed EPs.
Over a decade later, they rekindled their musical spark. Von encouraged Aaron to finish his musical demos. Years later, after selling Stuzo and taking paternity leave for the birth of his daughter Rose, Aaron reached out to Von. Majestic Phoenix was born.
They resurrected Aaron’s work, reconstructing and remastering them with care. Aaron also created two new tracks, “Drop” and “Chaos.” The resulting EP, Manifest, symbolized their destiny fulfilled. Majestic Phoenix is a celebration of enduring friendship and new beginnings.
