A common thread of cinematic poise runs through all of Malcolm Pardon's work. As a solo artist, he's developed a distinctive approach to minimalist performance and composition over a steady run of albums that springs from a strong piano foundation into textural, spatial experimentation. Alongside Peder Mannerfelt he's released a considerable, orchestrally-charged body of widescreen electronica as Roll The Dice, and he's taken his affinity for atmospheric arrangements into soundtrack work for TV and film.
Starting with 2021's Hello Death and continuing with 2024's The Abyss, Pardon's solo works have woven mortal themes into plaintive explorations on the crossover between traditional piano, electro-acoustic techniques and more pronounced electronic production. 2025's Flesh and Bones marked a decisive departure from the piano, while still upholding the patient, contemplative qualities that mark out all of Pardon's work.
With a mixture of Scottish and Swedish heritage, Pardon’s earliest dalliances into music were in London in the 90s at the height of the Britpop era, even flirting with major label success playing bass in the band Kinky Machine. After Pardon linked up with Mannerfelt, Roll The Dice released their first record in 2010 via Digitalis before a succession of albums with Leaf and the establishment of their own label, The New Black. Along the way, Roll The Dice worked with celebrated artists such as Pole, Alessandro Cortini and Glasser.
