Often described as healing, Malia’s sounds aren’t just something you listen to, they’re something you feel. Originally from the pacific northwest, the alternative R&B/neo-soul songstress garnered some initial buzz after opening for The Internet’s Syd on her West Coast tour in late 2017.
Since then, she’s amassed millions of streams on her LPs Late Bloomer and Ripe and Unpolished and What’s After 'I Love You?' As the anticipated follow up to her last EP, this album chronicles the journey of the the other side of heartbreak. It is a meditation on healing: on softening and on (re)connecting with her feminine energy: An uncovering of beauty once buried by shame and fear.
The songs, that seem to spill off the pages of a journal, document learning to receive with grace, getting out of her head, and back in her body. In her words, “This body of work is the beginning of the rest of my life. I’ve rewritten my story, tending to trauma and wounds that needed a deeper look. This is my rebirth, connecting with my inner child, the Divine, and knowing I am not alone. I acknowledge where I’ve been and how grateful I am to be where I am now...present, thinking on purpose and feeling the closest to home I’ve ever been...”
