Mandelbro is the brainchild of self-taught bedroom producer Bartholomew Joyce.
Mixing the creativity and multi-instrumentalism of LCD Soundsystem and Metronomy with the attitude and lyricism of Declan McKenna and Caroline Rose Mandelbro can only be characterised by its shape-shifting dynamism. Joyce’s voice and stage presence have been likened to King Krule, with a Paris inflection.
Joyce, based in Paris, first garnered attention with a series of lo-fi videos released on Instagram and YouTube. His energetic persona and DIY philosophy soon attracted a following.
Following the success of Mandelbro’s first solo album “Oneitis” (2021), Joyce invited Paris-based singer-songwriter Longue Ride to join the project on guitar, with Rabserino following on bass and Emmanuel Chevalier on drums. In 2022 they wrote and recorded their first EP, “Conditions” at Red House Studio, France. With its echoey soulfulness, hopeful crescendos and contagious underlying dance beats, “Conditions” (2023) hit a darker tone, tackling themes of alienation and disconnection in the information age and the experience of a world in ongoing crisis.
Calling to the Zeitgeist and the fears for the future, Mandelbro is a breath of fresh air, charged with genre-bending experimentation, heart-felt sensitivity and an infectious optimism.
