Marcelo Vidal was born in Rancagua, Chile, and began his study of the guitar in 1989 at the University of Chile graduating with distinction in the summer of 1996 as "Intérprete Superior en Guitarra". In addition, he has attended courses in Latin American music with Alirio Díaz and Leo Brouwer in Caracas, Venezuela.
In the autumn of 1997, he received a bursary from the German Academic Exchange Programme and came to Germany where he studied at the Music Conservatory in Cologne under Professor Roberto Aussel. In July 2000, he was awarded his second diploma as a guitarist.
Furthermore, since 2010 Marcelo Vidal has been head of the Orchestra Barroca NuevoMundo in Rancagua, Chile, and in this capacity regularly organizes workshops, seminars and concerts for Baroque music. He has created several projects, which have been honoured and sponsored by the Chilean Ministry for Culture.
