With only two members on board, Marching Band create a lush, vibrant brand of Swedish pop. Malmö residents Erik Sunbring and Jacob Lind met as students in Linköping and immediately began recording songs together in 2004. They released an EP in 2006 that caught the attention of Los Angeles-based U&L Records whom they met during a tour in South Africa. U&L brought them to LA several months later to record a full-length album together with producer Adam Lasus (<a href="spotify:artist:5hAhrnb0Ch4ODwWu4tsbpi" data-name="Yo La Tengo">Yo La Tengo</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:1jSaZgaKHmgc7VTgML528r" data-name="Clap Your Hands Say Yeah">Clap Your Hands Say Yeah</a>). Spark Large appeared in 2008 and earned nods from Rolling Stone (which praised the band's "pillowy pop"), as well as radio outlets like KCRW and NPR. While the band's music fared well in critical circles, it also found a broader audience in 2009 when several Marching Band songs appeared in a host of TV programs and movie soundtracks. Sunbring and Lind recorded their second album in Sweden with producer Jari Haapalainen (<a href="spotify:artist:5gInJ5P5gQnOKPM3SUEVFt" data-name="Camera Obscura">Camera Obscura</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:4uFpoTqyXb2tfvetAjmJQT" data-name="The Concretes">The Concretes</a>) lending his help. The result was a slightly darker record, Pop Cycle, which appeared in 2010. Their third self-produced album, So Much Imagine, was released in January 2014, and at 21 songs it was much longer than their previous works. In 2016, they released Heart Jewel, which they recorded in the legendary Tambourine studios. Now, after an 8-year hiatus, they are releasing their fifth album, Is It Too Sharp?, where three of the songs were written together with <a href="spotify:artist:4z0MZkwGvdcoQqcA47Wx4O" data-name="Peter Morén">Peter Morén</a> from <a href="spotify:artist:6u11Qbko2N2hP4lTBYjX86" data-name="Peter Bjorn and John">Peter Bjorn and John</a>.
