They say you're never too old to try something new, so at the grand old age of 51 I took my first steps into songwriting, having played in countless pub and club bands throughout my life. I just wanted to try something different, and rewarding.”
Marcus was raised in the North East of England and had local influences such as Dire Straits, Lindisfarne, Sting and Chris Rea as teen idols. Also a huge fan of Gary Moore and David Gilmour, his guitar and songwriting influences are obvious in his material to date. Having joined a McCartney tribute, Marcus found himself recording in Abbey Road, Studio 2 and playing with original Wings members Steve Holley, Denny Siewell, Howie Casey and Henry McCullogh (he of the glorious ‘My Love’ guitar solo fame). Appearing several times as festival headliners to crowds of thousands, as well as countless gigs down in the Cavern, Marcus was inevitably influenced by McCartneys broad range of styles and genres. The annual Beatles Festival is still amongst the most revered festivals to play at after nearly 30 years. At one of the midnight jam sessions Marcus played with a chap called Chris Sharrock, who was pretty good, it has to be said. It wasn’t until afterwards he learned that Chris was (at the time) the drummer in the Robbie Williams band! Marcus has also played with Will Lee, who was the bass player and band leader for the David Letterman show in the USA, amongst others.
