MAREA

MAREA began singing the moment she was able to speak, as her mother says. Or even before that. She would perform for hours and hours to the tunes of Michael Jackson, ABBA or Pink in the living room as the carpet was her stage. Also, every family occasion seemed to be a concert, as her mother and aunts sing as well. When MAREA was 10 years old she took her first singing lesson. She then taught herself to play the piano and in the following years the guitar. She was always writing songs, however it wasn’t until 2020 that she seriously focused on songwriting. She ended up writing and recording “lost myself” as her debut single. Her songs mainly talk about her life experiences as she also uses songwriting as a way to organize emotions and feelings as well as to express herself. Writing is the emotional outlet she needs. In her own words: “Writing allows me to project entangled thoughts from my head directly onto a giant screen. And with this distance, it‘s usually easier to understand them”. Her main influences when younger were her mother and all the CDs she listened to. Today she’s influenced by a lot of artists like Billie Eilish, Jorja Smith, Arlo Parks or Tash Sultana. But still, she focuses to work towards creating her own style.
