19-year old Maria Sur, or Masha as she’s used to be named in her home country Ukraine, fled to Sweden with her mom in March 2022.
Maria’s dream for the future has always been to become an artist, in Ukraine she has been participating in many talent shows while studying music and taking dance classes. When the war broke out she participated in The Voice Ukraine and felt that she had something going on.
Warner Music Sweden got their eyes and ears on this strong, amazing girl and that lead to a recording deal. Warner suggested that Maria should go for participation in Melodifestivalen, the biggest TV-show in Sweden. In February 2023 Maria participated with the song “Never Give Up” and with most votes she went straight to the final.
During summer 2023 she was one of the artists in the biggest summer tour in the country; “Diggiloo” and was able to connect with audience from north to south in Sweden.
“Never Give Up” is a ballad but Maria has always been into dance pop so she wanted to give Melodifestivalen another chance with that kind of song. It led up to participating with the song “When I’m Gone”. Once again she went straight to the final.
Maria is also very dedicated bringing attention to her home country, often participating in various charity-events. Fall 2024 she became a proud ambassador for Sweden for UNHCR.
While continuing her music career she’s also studying music and art at the university in Kiev, from a distance.
