For Mariame, a passion for music developed early on in childhood. She remembers listening to the radio with her father and they would sing together. Following that passion, she learned by listening to other musicians and the Latin artist Selena significantly inspired as a child. Mariame has been singing all her life but she didn’t start performing publicly until she was 13.
Born and raised in Montreal, her mother is Cree from Chisasibi and her father is Arabic from Algeria. She also has four young children of her own.. She spends time up north in Chisasibi during the summer and winter.
Mariame broke out into the Canadian music scene in 2015 with the release of her award-winning debut EP Bloom. Blending elements of R&B, pop, and EDM, Mariame delivers irresistible music as electric as her stage presence. Mariame has been steadily touring the communities in James Bay Cree Nation since she was 13 years old, and has garnered a faithful following.
In 2013, she was given the Rising Star Award, by the Cree Native Arts & Crafts Association. In 2015, Mariame signed a record contract and produced and distributed her debut album titled Bloom. The project peaked at #3 on the iTunes Pop Charts, reaching #1 on the NCI FM National Indigenous Music Countdown. In 2017, Mariame’s Bloom won Best Pop Album at the Indigenous Music Awards presented by SiriusXM Canada.
She is currently back in the studio recording her follow up full length album set to release in summer 2024.
