The winner of the 1977 Eurovision Song Contest, where she represented France, singer Marie Myriam was, in fact, Portuguese. She was born in Bragia, Portugal, on May 8, 1957. Her winning entry, "L'Oiseau et la Enfant," went on to become a sizable hit around Europe, and Myriam remains one of France's best-known Eurovision competitors, occasionally appearing at latter-day contests to deliver the results of the French voting. She also reprised her winning song at Eurovision's 50th anniversary concert in Copenhagen in 2005. ~ Dave Thompson, Rovi
