The music of Marína Ósk, Iceland’s Jazz vocalist of the year 2024 and awarded composer claims its space where the warmth of the melodic jazz musician meets the fragile heart of the singer/songwriter. Marína, who’s passion in music and studies has been within the genre of jazz, is a singer of the warmest kind. Her crystal clear and sincere voice, her virtuosic way of using it and her melodic and ear-catching compositions have earned her a reputable seat on the Icelandic music scene. She’s equally at home within various genres of music and her music gives a clear testament to her love for the acoustic side of life.
Marína Ósk released her debut solo album, "Athvarf", in October 2019 where her love for lyrics and gentle musical details shine through heartwarming acoustic sounding compositions. "Athvarf" received two nominations for the Icelandic Music Awards in 2020.
Marína's second solo album, "One Evening in July" was released in August 2022 on TengTones and this time around, her love and passion for the West Coast jazz of the 50's and the 60's as well as the tender Brazilian Bossa Nova really shines through her compositions. Her main influencers have been, amongst others, Chet Baker, Billie Holiday, Blossom Dearie, Paul Desmond, Astrud Gilberto, João Gilberto and Lester Young. The album landed her four nominations for the Icelandic Music Awards where she took home the price for jazz composition of the year.
