Combining urban beats and breaks, trip hop, drum'n'bass, and vocals, Mario Cee has emerged as one of the London underground dance scene's most successful remix engineers and artists. While he has remixed for such artists as Echo, Deborah Miller of Massive Attack, and Busi Mhlongo, Cee's most impressive work has been reserved for his own projects. His 1998 debut album, Earth With II Suns, which took more than a year to complete, featured musicians and vocalists from around the globe.
Born in northern London, Cee grew up in a Cypriot family. He moved to Cyprus, with his parents, at the age of 13. Quickly acquiring a reputation as a talented DJ, he was invited to work at a local club, Whispers, by his 14th birthday. After serving in the army, Cee returned to England and began DJing at Samantha's in the West End of London and hosting underground warehouse parties. He soon accepted an invitation to become resident DJ at the Club Ventura in Covent Garden. While his fame as a DJ continued to spread, Cee continued to refine his skills. Studying sound engineering at the School of Audio Engineering in London, he worked for a variety of studios following his graduation. These included Rollover, where he worked with such artists as Leftfield, Peter Andre, Shola Ama, and Dreadzone, and Chrysalis, where he remixed for Echo and Deborah Miller of Massive Attack. Signing with M.E.L.T. in 1997, Cee released his debut album, Earth With II Suns, a year later. Cee has continued to remix recordings for other M.E.L.T. artists. He released an album, Afrika Meltdown, of his remixes in 2000. The following year, he established his own world music remix label, Kronologik. ~ Craig Harris, Rovi
