Mario Diaz de Leon

Mario Diaz de Leon is a composer, performer, and recording artist, whose creative work explores intersections of sound, spirituality, and technology. He is concurrently active in modern classical music, experimental electronic music, improvisation, and metal, having produced over a dozen albums of his work in collaboration with chamber ensembles, as a solo electronic artist, as guitarist and vocalist in the duo Luminous Vault, and with the improvisation trio Bloodmist. His music has been celebrated over the last decade for its “remarkable textures and vivid atmosphere” (New Yorker Magazine), “snarling exuberance” (Pitchfork), and “hallucinatory intensity” (New York Times). "Spark and Earth" is the second release under the composer's own name featuring himself as performer, following 2022's "Heart Thread", a gorgeous, diaphanous documentation of two extended electronic live performances. "Spark and Earth" remains equally immersive, yet unfolds in ecstatic bursts over nine songs, melding together the contrasting elements of Diaz de Leon's various musical projects in metal, modern classical, and electronic music.
