A Czech singer based in Iceland, she is married to Icelandic producer Sturla Mio Þórisson. Together, they work and create music at their recording space, Masterkey Studios. Markéta first became known after starring in the independent Irish film Once, for which she co-wrote the music alongside Irish singer-songwriter Glen Hansard. In 2008, Glen and Markéta received the Academy Award for Best Original Song for their duet Falling Slowly. They went on to form the band The Swell Season, performing on some of the world’s most renowned stages and releasing a follow-up record, Strict Joy (Deluxe Edition), in 2009 before branching out into their solo careers.

Irglová released her solo debut, ANAR, in 2011, followed by MUNA in 2014 and LILA in 2022. During the Covid pandemic, she created a concept album consisting of a trilogy of long-form singles titled Quintessence, Among the Living, and Mother, which were released on vinyl in 2024. Her solo projects showcase her evolving sound. Throughout her career, she has collaborated with numerous artists, received several awards, and balanced her artistic pursuits with motherhood and personal growth.

She released the album Forward with The Swell Season in 2025 on the Masterkey Sounds label, in collaboration with Plateau Records, ATC Management, and Secretly Distribution.
