The multi-genre band Marmelate was formed from a group of music students in Hamburg back in January 2018 - then under the name “Kunyaza“. After first success with concerts in venues like the Logo and the Stellwerk Hamburg, lead vocalist Ella Hajdu joined the band in summer 2020. During the ongoing Corona pandemic, the band underwent a process of songwriting and rehearsing with less public presence, leading to their first gig with Ella in the Stellwerk Hamburg in November 2021 and the announcement of their new band name shortly after. In January 2022, the band released their first single “Temper & Groove“, followed by “Cherry“ three months later as well as „No Time“ in November 2022.
The band played many more gigs in Hamburg, before Lynn Basilon joined them as their new bassist in early 2024. With her, Marmelate played the legendary Spielbudenplatz twice as well as their first festival at the Millerntor Gallery and a performance at the Fabrik Hamburg.
Following three more singles, the band released their debut album “Polyfruit“ on the 27th of September 2024.
Marmelate‘s music ranges from Funk to Rock, from influences of Jazz to Pop. Their major aim is to break boundaries of listening habits and merge genres wherever it fits - whilst staying true to their handmade and authentic sound, always.
