“No social media presence creates challenges for promoting, for sure." Marshall Gray has no social media accounts, other than his YouTube channel. “I really love being free of the 'noise' on socials; it can be pretty overwhelming.
“It's comforting, I suppose, that I know the people listening have chosen, individually, to do so. I think my music sounds like some sort of mix of Elliott Smith, Smashing Pumpkins, Teenage Fanclub, and Phoebe Bridgers; it’s not like it's particularly fashionable to be a fan of mine.:-)
"All I really want is to find maybe a few hundred people who want to hear my stuff on the regular. So far, that seems to be happening. No big Swift, Biebs or Eilish numbers, but the response, in my own little corner of the world, has been really fun."
On June 6, MG will release his second project 'Damages'. "The last, geez, maybe 10 years, has been a real tough time of trying to heal some pretty fucked up relationships." The artwork for 'Damages' features an art piece by his eldest daughter. "Ya, I sure adore my kids; pretty much completely failed at showing them. Working on it though, and did she ever make a gorgeous painting!"
The titles on the record demonstrate Marshall's characteristic self effacing humor. "You can read them, and I think most people will get the point. I'm pretty aware of who I am, and surely who I'm not."
Look for lots of distorted ukuleles, tenor guitars, unapologetically lush harmonies, and always, pretty honest self assessment.
