Like the soundtrack to a classic spy film, UK-based songstress Martha Bean’s intricate fingerpicked guitar and soaring falsetto have earned her comparisons to artists like <a href="spotify:artist:5c3GLXai8YOMid29ZEuR9y" data-name="Nick Drake">Nick Drake</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:3nnQpaTvKb5jCQabZefACI" data-name="Jeff Buckley">Jeff Buckley</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:0z7Yuv7DuDQ5SaVn4VSlLt" data-name="Lisa Hannigan">Lisa Hannigan</a>.
Martha released her debut album “<a href="spotify:album:3gNJRMzGzY5BrzzTeP2onx" data-name="When Shadows Return to the Sea">When Shadows Return to the Sea</a>” in 2014, receiving 4-star reviews in R2 and Northern Sky, the latter praising it as “an utterly enchanting debut”.

The songs on this EP explore Martha’s battle with insomnia and postnatal depression, and self-worth (<a href="spotify:track:4crdTVo7z8KElaK7GxU3gw" data-name="A Troubled Mind">A Troubled Mind</a>). The EP closes on a lighter, more positive note with @Martha Bean To Be Happier, reminiscent of Carole King or Randy Newman. In collaboration with composer <a href="spotify:artist:2UHOTLuKBUpiHz1Oq5c3DZ" data-name="Jon Hargreaves">Jon Hargreaves</a>, the EP features a vast array of orchestral instruments recorded across the globe, from Scotland to Singapore. Mixed by two-time Grammy winning engineer Brian Losch (New York).
