Martin Barret is a Canadian Christian musician based in Belleville, Ontario.
At nine years of age, Martin became a follower of Jesus. In his early teens, he picked up the guitar and began writing faith-oriented songs in contemporary styles.
As a 1980s teen, Martin took inspiration from a number of well-known Christian performers of the day, including Petra, Steve Taylor, Larry Norman, and more.
Some pastors had seen him perform his original and cover songs at the Yonge Street Mission in downtown Toronto and thereafter, he toured throughout Southern Ontario and Upper New York state, opening for CCM artists like Rick Cua, Phil Keaggy, Twila Paris and others, releasing a 9-song album, “Line of Vision” in 1987.
Unfortunately, Martin's spiritual life completely collapsed by the end of that decade.
But God had not forgotten him; in 2003, following a series of life-changing events, God summoned Martin—along with his soon-to-be wife, Nancy Douglas—back to a relationship centred on scriptural living.
Together, in 2009, they began writing original Christian music. Their single “On That Day” received radio airplay in Canada. After years of studio work, they’ve just released their debut album, “Only Thing I Need,” which blends new compositions with remixed and remastered tracks released under their former band name, ‘Flagrant Regard.’
It is their hope that the lyrics and the music will inspire hearts towards Christ and also be played by worship musicians everywhere.
