The first Album Sunday Morning was prepared by Martin's daughters, who wrote this -
"This is a tribute to our dear father, Martin Hester, an amateur musician, whose passion and dedication to music has pleased, inspired and touched the souls of many. These piano recordings are authentic, made only with a mobile phone, starting during the pandemic while he was in isolation in Itaipava, Rio de Janeiro. Following the encouraging reception from friends and family, he started sending “Sunday Music" every fortnight. This was his way of sending his love and caring presence to us all in such difficult times. Drops of beauty, comfort and peace into the hearts of everyone around him"
Now in June 2025 the artist has been rebranded:
"Grandpa Martin" presents a selection of his Sunday recordings of baroque music for the piano.
The melodies of this music are often found in interweaving parts. They are sometimes delicate, sometimes forceful, usually with a strong rhythmic impulse. The baroque period is roughly 1600 to 1750, when instrumental resources were limited, and romantic expressiveness was still to come. But in their more restricted mode of expression, these pieces are finely crafted, and make for non-stress listening! In this selection, the Bach family features strongly, while Clementi's playfulness already makes a bridge to classicism.
Martin was born in London, England in 1939, and has spent most of his life in Brazil. He has six children and nine grandchildren.
