Rome, Italy's Martiria was first formed in 1987 by guitarist/keyboardist Andy "Menario" Menarini, broke up in 1998, reformed circa 2001, but didn't actually record their first album, The Eternal Soul, until 2004. By then group had evolved from a doom sound inspired by Black Sabbath and Candlemass into an adventurous, progressive/classic metal style reminiscent of Rainbow, and gone through several membership changes leading up to the arrival of vocalist Rick Martin Anderson (ex-Warlord), bassist Derek Maniscalco, and drummer Maurizio Capitini. The foursome returned with a sophomore album entitled The Age of the Return in 2005. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia, Rovi
