IN ENGLISH:
Masala Soundsystem is a Polish musical entity born in 2002 in Warsaw, with 17 years of musical activity and 10 released LP's and EP's under its belt. Masala plays traditional instruments (sarangi, saz, suka, hurdy-gurdy, jew-harp, darbuka, bendir, ney, mey...) and vocal techniques (throat-singing) from Asia, Middle East & Eastern Europe, skilfully combining them with modern drum loops, deep bass and socially conscious street poetry - serving it all with significant pinch of punk energy and well-directed rage. The band consists of virtuosos in their crafts, coming from musical worlds as distant as traditional ethnic and folk music, hip-hop, reggae / dancehall or modern electronic music of various genres. However, their joint artistic effort - orchestrated in proper way - turns out to perfectly harmonize and combine into fascinating new form. From melancholy of oriental dub, through middle-eastern dancehall, to overwhelming energy of drum'n'bass. From subtle sounds of traditional instruments to fiery and noisy electro-ethno-punk. From interpretations of old folk melodies to rebellious hip-hop lyrics full of bitter commentary on the state of modern world. From the North to the South, from the East to the West, from the past to the future. From Tarnobrzeg to Bangladesh. Total Masala!
