Masha Era

Masha Era is the performing and recording name of Russian electronica artist and producer Masha Ermolaeva. She started looking for alternative ways of interactive stage art by investigating new forms of visual art and engineering theatre. Her lyrical stage character Masha Era was born in December 2003 in one of the cult Moscow decadent stages within legendary Slava Polunin’s parties. Looking for an original sound for her visual acts, she met a young and talented Russian musician Ilya Shapovalov and together they produced recognised electronic dance tracks. Having created her own show "Masha Era. Non-Existence" in 2004, where electronic music is combined with the original visuals, she became a pioneer and one of the founders of Russian electronic stage performance using the latest technologies in electronic music, visual art and scenography . Releasing music on cult Russian and foreign labels, she continues her work as a single, independent producer and composer and creates music for cinema and theatrical productions. Without driving herself into the framework of a single musical format, her music travels from techno beats to instrumental minimalist compositions with a rich ambient sound. One element that unites her music of all its periods: an incredibly gentle, touchingly female vocal, not claiming to be dominant in the composition. Meanwhile, her lyrics are deep, veiled in tragicomic plots and dialogues.
