Dutch powerpop outfit The Mashed Potatoes formed in high school (College Leeuwenhorst, Noordwijkerhout) in the late 1980s. Playing high energy rock and roll and beat covers at local fests, they gradually transformed into a band with original material. Self-released eponymous debut album (The Mashed Potatoes, 1994) secured the band a international record deal with Spanish indie label Munster Records. Two more records followed (Do You Want Me To Touch You, Baby, 1997 and Up and Over!, 2000), before Mashed Potatoes - they lost the article "The" as they went along - disbanded in 2005. Individual members continued in garage disco trio The Incredible Stacks and folktronic project Skipper.
