The members of indie rock outfit Mashlin may have their roots in pop-punk, but the group came together with the purpose of doing more than just churning out the typical Warped Tour fare. Prior to Mashlin, vocalist/guitarist Aaron Harvey and guitarist Joe Knipp were playing together in the band Agent Felix. When the group happened to go out on tour with Orlando punks Unsung Zeros, the two friends quickly bonded over music with likeminded Zeros drummer Jason Burrows. Following the tour, the three kept in touch, and as they eventually got sick of the pop-punk each of their separate bands was perfecting, they decided instead to start anew. The Orlando-based trio joined up with bassist Glen Wilson and Mashlin were born. Friends and future labelmates Rory introduced them to ex-LFO crooner Brad Fischetti, who also happened to own local fledgling indie One Eleven Records. He signed the guys up and released their debut, Pushing Through the Seasons, in 2005. Produced by Chris Fudurich (Nada Surf, RX Bandits), the album showcased Mashlin's emo sensibilities filtered through influences like Nirvana, Radiohead, and Foo Fighters to create their own dreamy indie rock, which sometimes resembled a less dramatic version of Muse. Subsequent shows around the country found the band sharing stages with acts like Mae, the Forecast, Circa Survive, and Mute Math, which helped them foster an admirable following along the way. Mashlin eventually entered back into the studio to work on their sophomore record, aiming to release it during the summer of 2007. ~ Corey Apar, Rovi
