If the Coachella Valley desert scene can birth legendary rock acts like Kyuss and Queens of the Stone Age, can it also birth bands as eclectic as Matt and the Kings? While staying true to the heavy-hitting rock roots of the desert sound, Matt King is able to add a sense of comedic lyrics, unconventional song material, psychedelic experiments, and riffs galore. Debut EP Animal Kingdom is four tracks of the aforementioned combination, as lyrics about King’s pets intertwine with guitar solos, headbanging riffs, punk breakdowns, and meows. For fans of: Them Crooked Vultures, Wolfmother, Witch, Fuzz, and Spongebob Squarepants.

Matt and the Kings is the recording project of Matt King, but for live shows, the sound is rounded out and elevated with the help of other top-notch Coachella Valley musicians, making for an intense and enjoyable experience.
