Matt Berninger’s highly anticipated sophomore album Get Sunk is out now on Book/Concord Records. The frontman and lyricist for The National worked closely with Grammy Award-winning producer and engineer Sean O’Brien, who also co-wrote many of the songs.
Written after a long period of writer’s block and self-disgust, Get Sunk is a testament to Berninger's artistry and his ability to capture the complexities of the human experience. Inspired by the flora and fauna of his new home in Connecticut, the album brings blurry realizations to the surface and reflects on how we are shaped by parents, friends, siblings, spouses, exes, and even strangers.
The album features Meg Duffy (Hand Habits), Julia Laws (Ronboy), Booker T. Jones, Harrison Whitford, and members of The Walkmen, among others. With its robust folk-rock and orchestral backup, Get Sunk is not necessarily autobiographical, but the narrator is processing how he became himself.
