Matt Butler is both a singer songwriter as well as the founder of Art That Serves, an organization dedicated to bringing the arts to incarcerated populations. His new solo show 'Reckless Son' recounts the story of how his concert at the Albany County Jail led to performing over 100 concerts in jails and prisons across the country. A studio album containing all the music from the show was released in 2023 and named an Album Of The Year by SPIN. Butler has also collaborated with or been a feature performer at events held by The David Lynch Foundation, The Columbia Center For Justice, American Folk Art Museum, National Alliance On Mental Illness (NAMI), The Caron Foundation and he was selected as an inaugural ‘Activist In Residence’ at the Kripalu Center in the Berkshires. Along with correctional facilities, he performs at colleges and universities, high schools, and retreat centers. He’s been artist in residence at HB Studios in Manhattan and his work has been featured on NPR Morning Edition, The Blue Grass Situation, and PBS.
