Matt Herzog was born and raised in Owatonna, MN, and first stepped into the Minneapolis music scene in 1999 as co-lead vocalist and guitarist of The Half Ton Club. A loyal fan base formed between the Univ. of MN and Augsburg College campuses when winning a 27 band competition at the legendary "Cabooze" venue. The awarded studio time quickly produced two singles on FM radio, and catapulted the band onto stages as an opener for the big local acts frequenting Twin Cities’ clubs and outdoor festivals. HTC eventually became headliners, and funded three studio recordings while playing in college towns throughout the midwest over the next five years.
Still residing in South Minneapolis, Herzog’s vocals and Telecaster leads have been heard in performances with a variety of local bands. Several of the musicians met over the years recorded parts to help blend pop, folk-rock, blues, jazz & funk influences on the latest album, "Keep It Light".
