Matt Lister is a singer/songwriter from Sydney. From a young age he was surrounded by an eclectic range of music curated by his community radio announcer father. His ability to create familiar, catchy melodies can be traced back to his childhood and in his music you can hear the early influences such as The Cure and Crowded House.

Beginning his professional music career as a drummer, playing mainly in pit orchestras, Matt quickly turned his attention to songwriting and singing. After searching for his sound for a while, he has finally landed in the alt-pop world where he creates either end of the happy/sad spectrum composing honest songs that reflect his experience with the world.

2021 will see him release more music than any previous calendar year. The first single, The Upside of Facing Down is about the connection we feel to Hollywood and its portrayal of love, lust and intimacy. Having finished recording his debut EP in December he had one final session in the studio booked where he intended to write an intro track, what came out was the lead single of 2021. The song began as a poem he had written just after exiting lockdown, about the urge to leave all the bullshit that comes with living in a city and global society behind.

Matt's ability to combine folk melodies with alt pop arrangements has him quickly building a loyal local fanbase who are championing him through the early stages of his career.
