Matt Skerk

Sibling harmonies, wistful riffs, sylvan vibes. Ohioan Matt Dougherty goes by the stage name Matt Skerk after running into several fellow Matt Doughertys on the singer-songwriter road. Skerk is an abbreviated version of his mother's maiden name.

Matt picked up his first guitar in high school and began writing his own material soon after, inspired by all-time greats Sting, James Taylor, Nick Drake, and Enya. Beginning his career as a solo act in college, he also became the lead songwriter, vocalist and rhythm guitarist for a band called All Matter in Athens, Ohio. The band went on to play the thriving music scene at coffee houses and bars around town.

Shortly after college, Matt joined Teach For America and taught elementary school in the Rio Grande Valley. It was there he formed his own guitar club for the students he taught and played numerous solo gigs along the U.S. and Mexico Border.

Matt continues to work in education and pursues music on the side.
